He does mention "egg and ...Good point, Barrie! He does mention "egg and spoon" about midway, but I didn't pay much attention because I was so intent on what was happening. I think it refers to egg and spoon races. There are a couple of eggs that figure hugely in the plot (Faberge and Firebird) and they're being carried here and there and constantly in danger of breaking. So I think that's it.<br /><br />Also, hunger and food are obsessions in the story, so that's a "spoon" reference, probably.
